Samukelo “Samu” Mazibuko,  is 17 years old and is in Grade 11 at Jeppe High School for Boys.  At the school, Samukelo takes part in Basketball, Chess, Dance Society and Robotics.  From a young age, it was his dream to be part of a high school that has multiple extra-mural activities as well as a good quality education.  Growing up in Soweto, Samukelo felt he could not find a suitable school that met his desires.  His late father managed to get Samukelo and his sister into the Jeppe Schools, his sister through funding from their father’s employers.  Unfortunately, Samukelo’s father lost his job.  By this time, his sisters had completed their schooling but funding Samukelo’s education at Jeppe had become challenging.  To make matters worse, tragedy struck and Samukelo’s father passed away, leaving their unemployed mother to fend for the children.

Receiving funding from The Emmanuel Taban Foundation has greatly alleviated the difficulty for Samukelo’s family and he can now concentrate on his studies and continue with his self-development.  He has now been selected for the first team in chess and will be receiving his colours for chess soon.  He is also working hard at improving his academic results and looks forward to a bright and fulfilling future ahead.  As the foundation, it is our view that young people need to be supported in all ways in order to bring out the best in them enable to succeed in all their endeavors.  Funding candidates such as Samukelo is aligned with our goal to uplift and encourage deserving learners while contributing better outcomes for them.
